Auto insurance

Auto insurance for New York drivers.

One dedicated agent, a diverse stable of carriers, and a policy written around how you actually drive. Get a quote in minutes, or call and talk it through first.

The basics

An auto policy is six coverages, not one price.

Most people shop auto insurance on the premium alone, which means the parts that decide a claim get chosen by default. Every one of them can be raised, lowered, or left off, and each choice shows up years later on the worst day of your year.

Here is what you are actually buying.

  • Liability, which pays for the injuries and damage you cause to someone else
  • No-fault, or personal injury protection, which pays your own medical bills whoever was at fault
  • Uninsured and underinsured motorist, which steps in when the driver who hit you carries little or nothing
  • Collision, which repairs your own vehicle after an impact
  • Comprehensive, which handles theft, fire, storm damage, glass, and the deer that steps out at dusk
  • The parts that get skipped: rental reimbursement, towing, and gap coverage on a financed car
The legal floor

The state minimum is a floor, not a plan.

New York sets a required minimum for liability, no-fault, and uninsured motorist coverage on every registered vehicle, and those minimums have not kept pace with what a serious accident costs. Vehicles are expensive to repair. Medical care is expensive to deliver. A single injury claim can run well past the smallest limits the state will let you buy, and the balance does not disappear because your policy ran out.

We will quote the minimum if that is what you want. We will also price the limit above it, because the difference is usually smaller than people expect and it is the one part of the policy you cannot fix after the fact.

Pricing

Rate is built from things you control and things you do not.

Two carriers can look at the identical driver and land nowhere near each other, because each weighs those factors its own way and each has its own appetite. That is the practical case for an independent agency: we market your policy to several carriers at once instead of asking you to fill out the same form six times and keep score yourself.

  • Where the car is garaged, down to the ZIP code
  • Who drives it, including the teenager who just joined the household policy
  • Your record, and how long ago the last incident was
  • Annual mileage, and whether the commute is daily, seasonal, or gone entirely
  • The vehicle itself: repair cost, theft rate, and safety equipment
  • Your deductibles and limits, and whether the home policy sits with the same carrier
Common gaps

Where drivers get caught.

  • Buying the state minimum and assuming it is a real limit
  • Cutting uninsured motorist coverage to save a little, in a region where plenty of drivers carry the bare minimum or nothing at all
  • Leaving a new driver off the policy until renewal, which is the fastest route to a denied claim
  • Financing a car with no gap coverage, then still owing money after the total loss settlement
The process

One agent, start to finish.

You work with your dedicated agent: the person who quotes the policy is the person who picks up when you call at renewal, and the principal reviews the file behind them. Start online and a person responds. There is no phone tree.

The short version: tell us what you drive and who drives it, we market the risk across our carriers, and you get the options side by side with a plain explanation of what changes between them. Nothing is bound until you say so.

Go deeper

More than one car, or one that is not ordinary?

This is the plain-language page, written for anyone comparing auto insurance in New York. If the garage is more complicated, a classic on agreed value, a car parked at a second home, a student driving in a third state, an umbrella that has to sit over all of it, then our auto coverage practice walks through how those files get structured. Same agency, same agent, more detail.
